I grew up playing lots of sports for my small high school in Louisiana. I started on the football, baseball and soccer teams. I also did powerlifting and golf competitively. I tried out for the University of Utah baseball team and couldn’t quite hack it. I started running and found out I had a knack for it when I won my age division in the 2008 Salt Lake City marathon. Then I stopped running out of boredom. Then after a few months of aimless weight training, a friend brought me into a Crossfit gym for what he said would be an “intense” workout. It ended up being one of the toughest workouts of my life, and the best thing was that it was fun. I saw this “Crossfit” thing as a game that would make me bigger, faster and stronger. So that’s how it started and I haven’t stopped since.
Physically, Crossfit has indeed made me bigger, faster and stronger than I have ever been. On top of that it has made me more durable and my recovery faster. As a kid I broke bones from my toes all the way up to my collarbone. I never stopped moving and was quite reckless. Somewhere along the way, a vertebrae disorder that I and many other people have started to cause my back to spasm at any given moment. When I started Crossfit, all of the heavy lifting started to really aggravate my back again. After being taught mobility exercises by Crossfit coaches, my back rarely hurts, and I am more flexible than ever.
The philosophy of Crossfit has inspired me to become a coach in the sport and ultimately get a degree in physical therapy. The holistic approach to fitness resonates with me on a very deep level. It is fun to go to work and fun to workout. If you are looking to get in the best shape of your life or if you are just looking to lose a few pounds, Ute Crossfit is the place for you. I have never worked with a group that is so dedicated and focused on meeting each individuals needs.
In the Gym
Michael brings experience, education, and a smile to his coaching. He privately trains clients and coaches our regular WOD classes. He is proficient in Olympic Lifting. Michael has spent the last year working with SUU collegiate football program and training for this year’s CrossFit World Games. This is Michael’s third year competing at the Games.
